Humans' early arrival in Britain

Researchers have discovered stone tools in Norfolk, UK, that suggest that early humans arrived in Britain nearly a million years ago - or even earlier.
The find, published in the journal Nature, pushes back the arrival of the first humans in what is now the UK by several hundred thousand years.
Environmental data suggests that temperatures were relatively cool.
This raises the possibility that these early Britons may have been among the first humans to use fire to keep warm.
They may also have been some of the earliest humans to wear fur clothing.

With the ancient tools were plant material, including a pine cone (top right) that provided clues about climate
The discoveries were made in Happisburgh, in the north of Norfolk. At the time there was a land bridge connecting what is now southern Britain with continental Europe.
There are no early human remains, but the researchers speculate that the most likely species was Homo antecessor, more commonly - and possibly appropriately - known as "Pioneer Man".
Remains of the species have been found in the Atapuerca region of northern Spain, and dated to 0.8-1.2 million years ago. So the species could well have been in Britain at around that time, according to Professor Chris Stringer of the Natural History Museum in London.
"If the climate was good and the land bridge was there, there's no real reason they couldn't have come (to Britain) as far back as 1.2 million years ago," he told BBC News.

One million years ago, a land bridge linked the UK to continental Europe
Pioneer Man was much like our own species in that it walked upright, used tools and was a hunter gatherer.
But physically the species looked rather different. It had a smaller brain, strong brow ridges and big teeth, with some primitive features such as a flat face and no prominent chin on the lower jaw.
'Real pioneers'
The discovery raises many new questions, such as how these creatures dealt with the cold winters that existed at the time. Scientists have also speculated that they may have used shelters and clothing.
It also raises the possibility that Britain was the first place where fire was used in a controlled way for warmth.
"Although we don't have the evidence for fire or of clothing to get through the winters up here, I think they must have had some extra adaptations," said Professor Stringer.
"I think the evidence suggests that they were living at the edge of the inhabited world in a really challenging environment and indeed they were real pioneers living here in Britain, nearly a million years ago," he said.
The research was led by Dr Nick Ashton of the British Museum, London, as part of the Ancient Human Occupation of Britain (AHOB) project.

The discovery suggests that early humans may have adapted to the cold
"The discovery is immensely surprising because we are dealing with an incredibly early date," Dr Ashton said.
He added that the environmental data that indicated the relatively low tempertures was "even more surprising".
"It's unusual to find humans in such a cool climate this far north at this very early date," he said.
This area of Norfolk was quite a different place one million years ago.
"The [River] Thames was flowing through this area. And at the site we have sediments laid down by the Thames," he explained.
Pioneer man was eventually wiped out by an Ice Age. These occurred about every 100,000 years, and each time that happened Britain was depopulated.
As conditions became more benign, a new group of humans arrived.
There were at least eight different waves of people that came in and died out before the last wave, which is the one that survives today.

Spain beat Germany 1-0 to enter final

DURBAN: A headed goal by defender Carles Puyol carried Spain to their first World Cup final on Wednesday when they beat Germany 1-0 in the semifinals.

Spain will face Netherlands at Soccer City in Johannesburg on Sunday. The Dutch have been in the final twice before but have never won it so a new world champion is guaranteed.

The Spaniards dominated the match but struggled to finish off a German side lacking their usual pace until Puyol struck with a powerful header from a Xavi corner in the 73rd minute.

"Players from defence to attack were extraordinary and played a great game," said Spain coach Vicente del Bosque.

Striker David Villa added: "We've shown that in the big moments we've risen to the occasion.

"It's the best game we've played. We deserved to score more but a Puyol goal put us in the final and we're exultant."

The European champions dominated possession early on and needed only five minutes to carve out their first chance against a nervous German defence.

Spain forward Pedro, who started ahead of the misfiring Fernando Torres, played the ball for David Villa, who caught Arne Friedrich napping but could not beat keeper Manuel Neuer.

SPAIN PRESSURE

With the Germans, who lost the Euro 2008 final to the Spaniards by the same score, boxed into their own half, Spain kept up the pressure, with Puyol heading an Andres Iniesta cross from the right narrowly over the bar after 15 minutes.

Germany's Piotr Trochowski, who replaced the suspended Thomas Mueller on the right, stretched Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas with a well-struck low drive.

Pedro and Sergio Ramos continued to single out Germany left back Jerome Boateng as a weakness, cutting the ball back from the wing for midfielder Xabi Alonso who twice fired wide early in the second half.

The Spaniards came agonisingly close in the 58th minute with a Pedro shot that forced a spectacular save from Neuer before Iniesta cut the ball across the face of goal a metre ahead of the sliding Villa.

Germany remained on the backfoot and 17 minutes from time were punished when Puyol headed the winner leaving Spain to soak up some late pressure before reaching the final.

"I believe they (Spain) will win this tournament," said Germany coach Joachim Loew.

"Spain let the ball roll so well and you just can't keep up with them. We played a great tournament but weren't as sharp tonight as we've been."

"It was very difficult tonight," added Germany captain Philipp Lahm. "We knew Spain were a favourite to win the tournament. Spain is a very strong team."

About The Great King Life from childhood

The Great King

I was born on November 11th 1990 in Srivilliputtur it’s located in south part of India. When I was a six month baby, my entire family member came to Madurantakam due to my father business. My grandpa was a great business man at Srivilliputtur and he owns a vessels shop, and it was his first topmost shop on the area. When my father was studying 9th STD at his school his father and mother died, then my father was not able to go to school, he was taking care of his life as well as that shop. When he was 23 years old he got married to his cousin that’s my mom. They both were living together happily, after few years they had few problems due to my father’s business, we ended up shifting to Madurantakam. In my family we are five members. I have 2 siblings; I have one elder sister & brother.

When I came to Madurantakam I was about 6 months baby, few years gone. As of age 3 that time my father and I went out to town and he bought me a remote car and some of plating things I was very excited and happy at the moment. After 6 months at the age of 4 I was a naughty boy my dad was having provision store, whenever I go to my dad shop I will do some horrible and crazy things like breaking bottles etc. So my dad decided me to join in a Hindu Coronation Middle School. While he had a discussion with my mom he joined me in a school in which my mother agreed upon to it. After joined in I couldn’t be able to sit in a single place, at the time when I was studying, my school was very near to my home, So that I will not be in school always by running to my home and ending up in or sleeping in my home. After one year I was studying 2nd STD, I got such a nice friend his name Vinayagamoorthy, both of us will go to school and play together. When I was studying 3rd std I got 3 more friend’s. Latheef, Raj Kumar, Tamil Selvan. These guys are really funny but latheef  is competitor with me for study. Other guys have normal knowledge with studies and they don’t like to study their books. We four people were the rockers of the school although we were small boys. Also I love to learn English. I had a teacher her name Mythili she was a great teacher in English subject, I was always asking for her in English. Latheef is really great in Mathematics; other guys are interested in fights. Also my sister was a good teacher for me to teach English. When I was studying 3rd STD I factored my right hand and I went to my home town for a rest. After few months I came back and wrote my exams. When I completed my 4th STD I got transfer to another school. At the same time I was missing my friend’s too much. And also my great master to, in my first school his name was Augustine he likes me very much and also he was such a nice teacher to teach all subjects.

I have joined in my new school called Hindu coronation Middle school. The first day was unforgettable day because that was the first time in a whole day I was in town school also I was a small boy, in the morning my dad said I will come and join also your brother in your school so the end of the day I was start to search my brother, he was not there. Because my dad was not joined him on the day. I started to cry and search him around the school. I stared to go home at the time one guy came and asked me “why are you crying?” I said I am searching my brotherL. He said to me I am your classmate so don’t cry we both will search him, we started to search and going on the way to home. I was going to near my home my father appear on the way I started to cry a lot and father came and asked me why dear crying I said dad I lost brother he said he’s at home, I got angry and fought with my dad, then he bought me chocolate etc J then I kept quiet. I got few friends at my fifth standard, their name Vijiyalakshmi, Kalaivanan, Jegadeesh M, they are my best friends. Also I was thinking when school is going to and when I am going to meet my friends, also at my old school there is class till 5th std only. So I went to ask to my friends mothers to join them at my school, they did the same, I was so happy. But after opened the school I got shocked Vinayagamoorthy was another section so I felt so sad, after few days we both go together to school and eat our lunch and come together to home. After few months I and all of my friends will go home by walk and running on the empty road, my school days were going so nice. We were enjoyed a lot. When I was studying my 6th std I got a wonderful class teacher she was very kind person. Also I got many friends at my final exam I got high fever I could not capable to write exam also I don’t study well. At the time one of my classmate Ambika shown me the full history exam I was so happy and she was very close friend for me from the day, but I am a bad luckier she went from the school after complete her 6th exams due to family problem. Still I miss he very much L.While I am studying 7 th std I got lot of friend’s at my school. Also I would like to tell you a important person that Mr.Vijayabaskaran he’s the don and boss for me J, he will do whatever want to do for me. If someone going to fight with me he will come and hit him J, I will get very happy J. He’s such a nice friend for me like my brother but he’s too elder than me.

At my 7th std I got 3 more crazy friend’s their name is Parthiban, Jeyaprakash. My school life was moved nicely till my 8th std. Me and Vijiyalakshmi are very good friends she’s really very nice and taking care person. I was having more than 8 years friendship with her from my 5th std. I would like to tell you about my teachers here 1st Uma, 2nd Barathi, 3rd Shantha, Megarani (HM), 4th Amudha they are all really awesome teacher. I really thank to god to make them as my teachers. Uma teacher is wonderful teacher for all of those school students. I complete that school and I lost all of their contacts. It will continue from my next year school 2004 with Gurukulam Higher Secondary School.

Why I am thinking I am The Great King of The World

Hello world!. I am always saying I am the great king of the world many people are asking me why you are saying like this, but I know what the reason is. If you want to know about the reason read more about me here in this article. My dad is basically biggest fan of the olden days Kings and he is always telling me about the story of kings and who are all become successful man and how they get success. I will tell you brief explanation about who are kings. A king is a head of state, which may or may not, depending on the style of government of a nation, exercise monarchal powers over a nation, usually called a kingdom. A king is the second highest sovereign title, only looking up to an emperor. The female equivalent of king is queen; although the term “queen” may refer to one ruling as a monarch in her own right, queen regnant, or to the wife of a king, a queen consort. A queen, who becomes the reigning monarch because the king has died, has become debilitated, or is a minor, is known as a queen regent. The husband of a queen regnant is sometimes styled the king consort but is more commonly styled the prince consort. A king or queen may wear a crown or carry others. This is the definition for the king. When I was a child my father started telling me the stories like how we need to win in our life, what are the way’s we can go and etc. Till the age of eight years old I’ve always think that I’d like to become a General of Inspector But when I father start to tell these kinds of stories I started to think I am the Great King of the World.
